People with aphasia who are AQPA members are eligible to join various activity workshops, all of which are adapted to help stimulate language expression:
Workshops (Verbal and Written Communication Workshop Description):
Tuesday
Conducted by Christine Cantin
11:00 to 12:00: The Little Choir
Gathering small groups of new singers, rehearsals are provided to gradually introduce newcomers to songs already known to the larger choir. This allows members to repeat the songs in a slower rhythm, and progressively learn the meaning of the melodies found in the choir’s existing repertoire. Practice includes pronunciation exercises and text interpretation. Enjoy those special moments with Christine Cantin, whether you are a beginner or already have experience.
1:00 to 3:15: Choir Rehearsal: “Chœur de l’aphasie”
For the pleasure of singing in a group conducted by the talented pianist-composer Christine Cantin, this workshop provides an opportunity for people with aphasia to stimulate their oral/vocal communication skills by express words through song. The choir’s popularity has grown quickly, as the members have had and enjoyed the opportunity to perform at different events. These performances by the choir provide the person with aphasia with a sense of validation and accomplishment. Furthermore, given its many achievements and performances, the choir contributes to the promotion of “awareness of aphasia”, thereby enriching our community.

Every summer, since 2011, AQPA invites its members to six weeks of outdoor photography workshops. There are anglophone and francophone days. With volunteers and counselors, the members are introduced to the art of photography, enjoying the opportunity to express themselves freely through a medium different from speech. Many talents are revealed.
Summer 2015, camera in hand, members were invited to discover the beautiful parks of Montreal.
Summer 2014 had Universal Accessibility as a theme. The participants had to evaluate the installations. Here is a summary in the following slide show.
In the summer of 2013, amateur photographers have gone through the « Plateau Mont-Royal » to familiarize with their new neighbourhood and also to create a 2014 calendar.
The photos and the texts that you are about to see were exposed at the Passage des arts of the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal, winter 2012. This workshop was created and ran by Mylène Dion.
